Nine Yard Sarees — A Short Story Cycle
Book Cover Design
Client: Ethos Books
Year: 2023
Role: Illustration & cover design
Designed the book cover for Nine Yard Sarees, a short story cycle by Prasanthi Ram, published by Ethos Books.
The illustration-led cover was developed to reflect the layered narratives within the collection, balancing symbolism, typography, and restraint. Drawing from cultural references without literal depiction, the visual language foregrounds mood and texture, allowing the themes of identity, memory, and everyday ritual to surface subtly through form and composition.
The final cover was designed to sit comfortably within Ethos Books’ editorial catalogue while maintaining a distinct visual presence, supporting the book’s positioning within contemporary Singapore literature.

Womb Song
Book Cover Design (Collage Illustration)
Client: Ethos Books
Year: 2024
Role: Collage illustration & cover design
Designed the book cover for Womb Song by Esther Vincent Xueming, published by Ethos Books.
The collage-based cover reflects the book’s poetic structure and its exploration of embodiment, memory, and voice. Rather than presenting a singular image or fixed narrative, the composition is built through layering and fragmentation, mirroring how the text moves between personal history, inherited experience, and emotional resonance. Disparate visual elements coexist within the same space, echoing the way the poems hold multiple temporal and emotional states at once.
The approach treats the body as both archive and site of becoming, allowing the cover to feel tactile, intimate, and unresolved, in alignment with the book’s themes and tone.

The visual identity drew from the boxing technique “check-hook” as a conceptual framework rather than a literal motif. A restrained red and blue colour palette was developed to reference the opposing corners of a boxing ring, creating visual tension while supporting the album’s themes of control, movement, and confrontation.
The system was applied across album artwork, single covers, press imagery, digital platforms, and merchandise, ensuring consistency across the album’s release cycle while allowing individual artworks to retain distinct character.
The project received regional coverage, including Bandwagon Asia, and formed part of a broader visual rollout accompanying the album launch.
